Welcome to the Oven Mitt Movement.

We can't wait to bake with you!

We are a collective of bakers who want to help feed our hungry neighbors. Once a month, we host guest bakers to lead us in a Bake Along. When you bake along with us, we ask that you donate your baked goods to a neighbor in need or a hunger organization. If you live in Austin, we will collect your baked goods and deliver them to a chosen organization each month.

If you don't live in Austin, we invite you start your own local chapter of the Oven Mitt Movement. We will set up an Instagram group chat for your community and you will bake along with us, then give your creations to neighbors in need. To learn more, email ovenmittmovement@gmail.com.

Bakers' Guidelines

There are two ways to bake with us: via our monthly Bake Alongs and for special "side bakes". To learn about Bake Alongs, sign up for our mailing list. To learn about side bakes, message us on Instagram @ovenmittmovment and ask to be added to our group chat.

We ask our bakers to commit to the following guidelines:

  • If you agree to bake, please make sure to honor your commitment. We are including you in our final counts and it is difficult to adapt if your plans change at the last minute. Please only sign up to bake if you are absolutely certain you'll be able to!

  • Absolutely, positively DO NOT use substitutions in your recipes. We provide detailed ingredients lists to the recipients of our baked goods so that those with food allergies are well informed. Follow the recipe exactly as stated so that the ingredients listed are accurate. We can't stress this enough, so it bears repeating: NO SUBSTITUTIONS!

  • We email all registered bakers detailed drop off and packaging instructions. Please be careful to follow the packaging directions provided out of respect to others' time and money. Please plan your baking day to respect the drop off times out of respect to others' time.

Upcoming Events

The Oven Mitt Movement is taking a little time to figure out how to best bake for our community in 2022 in a new reality where folks are no longer staying home and enjoying lots and lots of spare time to bake! As we are working on these plans, we want to continue supporting our neighbors, and we know that you do, too!

This holiday season, we invite you to join us in supporting Foundation Communities in their Holiday Assistance Program for their residents. You may choose to make a donation or support a family in meeting their holiday meal and gift needs. To learn more, visit their Holiday Assistance page.
